ForeverLM vs Sapience

Sapience is a local knowledge workspace built around a visual canvas. Each "space" is a folder on your computer, drawn as a board of cards, concept maps and mind maps. Notes, canvases and AI chats are all plain text files, and it can open an existing Obsidian vault. Its AI researches a topic, explains material, builds a learning curriculum and gathers sources, and it keeps its skills and memories as notes you can read. It is in invite-only early access, and little beyond that is published yet. ForeverLM shares the local-first values and now has a Canvas of its own. Its centre is different: a library that fills itself, and review that checks you understood it.

Where Sapience is better

  • Plain files, no lock-in. Everything is a text file in your own folders, and an Obsidian vault opens as it is. ForeverLM's library is open too, a SQLite database and files in your iCloud, but it is a database, not a folder of notes.
  • The canvas is the app. Sapience is canvas-first, with cards, concept maps and mind maps on every space. ForeverLM's Canvas is newer and still in beta releases.
  • AI memory you can read. Its AI keeps its skills and memories as notes in your workspace, so you can see and edit what it knows.

Where ForeverLM is better

  • Available, and documented. ForeverLM ships today, with its platforms, prices and models stated. Sapience is invite-only, and says nothing yet about its platforms, models or price.
  • The library fills itself. Reading lists, Apple Podcasts episodes with full transcripts, PDFs dropped into iCloud folders, X bookmarks, YouTube likes and meeting transcripts arrive without being dragged in.
  • Saving leads to remembering. A Schedule, cards drafted as you finish sources, and a review dialogue in which a tutor who has read the whole source checks that you understood it. See Why Quizzing?
  • A canvas wired to its sources. On ForeverLM's Canvas a paper can show only its figures, a passage card opens the paper at that passage, and a figure boxed in the Reader drags onto the board.
  • Any model, and the assistant you already use. Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok can search your library, add to it and run your reviews over MCP.
  • On every Apple device. Your library syncs through your iCloud to your other Macs, the iPhone app and the web library.
  • Gemini Notebook moves in whole. Paste a notebook's link and its sources, chats and notes arrive as a ForeverLM notebook (Importing a Gemini Notebook).

Which should you choose?

Choose Sapience if you think on a canvas, want every note to stay a plain file in your own folders, already work in Obsidian, and can get an early-access place.

Choose ForeverLM if you want a library that gathers what you read, watch and hear by itself, with any model you like, and review that makes it stick.
