- Document management depth. It is built for very large, heterogeneous archives rather than a curated learning queue.
- Automation. Filing rules, smart groups, scripts, OCR, triggers, and integrations can support demanding professional workflows.
- Search and classification. DEVONthink has decades of experience finding and relating material across databases.
- Scanning and records. Pro is a stronger home for receipts, email archives, legal files, and scanned office documents.
- Flexible ownership. Local databases, multiple sync methods, durable exports, and a perpetual license appeal to privacy-conscious Mac users.
Where ForeverLM is better
- It understands learning sources. A podcast episode, paper, book, and course are not generic files. Each gets source-specific ingestion, reading, and playback behavior.
- The queue has a purpose. Schedule what to learn this week and track whether it was reviewed, not merely archived.
- AI interaction is portable. Use in-app Chat or let an external MCP assistant operate the library and save the resulting review.
- Active understanding is built in. Feynman-style dialogue probes gaps and preserves the session against the sources covered.
- It starts free. There is no license decision before building a library.
Which should you choose?
